Our Wurlitzer used to be on display at the Gaumont Theatre, Manchester and even had a home at the Granada Studios in Manchester for a number of years.The GRPM is excited to host the 2021 Mighty Wurlitzer Organ Concert series in person with the option to purchase a recording of the Friday evening concert. It was installed, and is looked after by Ben Snowdon. He purchased the Wurlitzer from the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust. Our Wurlitzer is on long term loan from the very generous Paul Kirner, of Compton Lodge, Sapcote, Leicestershire. Nigel Odgen from BBC Radio 2’s “The Organist Entertains” The Wurlitzer takes pride of place on a specially built raised platform inside our vintage fairground. It’s actually playing through its amazing network of pipes, it’s not a recording.
It’s cleverly programmed to play ‘as live’, even though there’s no organist playing. Please note on the days when the park shuts at 16.00, the final Wurlitzer play will be at 15.00. If you’d like to hear our Wurlitzer in ‘full swing’ then make sure you call into our fairground at 11.00 and 16.00. We’re trying to keep the wonderful sound of the theatre organ alive for future generations, through daily performances and special concerts with well known organists.
